FULL PROPOSAL REVEALED

August 2018: We have submitted a fresh application for Ministerial Authority and, as promised in 2014, unveiled the Full Proposal for public review ahead of submitting our Development Application.

Explore the Official Details Online or visit our Display at Brooke St Pier! Feedback closes Sept 30th, 2018.

DESIGN UNDERWAY

May 2018: Our project design team are in full swing, with Tasmanian consultants backed by experts from around the world piecing together a design solution for approval. Planning scheme height limits have proved a challenge and critical investigations have forced a rethink. We remain on track to submit the Development Application in 2018.

LEGISLATION APPROVED

September 2017: The Cable Car Facilitation Act 2017 passes both houses of State Parliament, paving the way for the project design to be assessed on its merits. Vote Results: Lower House: 20:3,  Upper House: 10:1.
August 2017: Formal e-Petition to Parliament attracts 5,300 signatures in support of the project legislation!

Experience

Tasmania's Next Big Thing in Tourism

JOURNEY & Destination

Silently rise 1270 metres above Tasmania's premier city. Soak in the scenery no matter your ability. Breathe crisp clean air. Skim misty clouds. Frolick in fresh snow. Discover new trails. Create memories. Unravel the mountain's story.

IMPROVED BEYOND CARBON NEUTRAL

IMPROVED BEYOND CARBON NEUTRAL

CLEANER, SMARTER.

SWAP CARBON FOR HYDRO

1100 tonnes of carbon monoxide are emitted each and every year just to haul 430,000 people to the summit and back again. Our proposal can move up to 3.3 million people a year safelyand quietly, using 4 gigawatt hours of Tasmania's clean energy.

TAXPAYER TO TOURIST

SWITCH FUNDING MODEL

Ongoing conservation and Park Management isn't cheap. Since 1904, every Tasmanian has paid for the mountain's upkeep whilst tourists continue to visit for free.  When tourists are willing to pay for the experience, couldn't taxes be better spent elsewhere?

280 jobs

FROM CONSTRUCTION TO OPERATION & BEYOND

Over and above the 200 construction jobs during an 18 month installation phase, MWCC is projected to employ 80+ Tasmanians in exciting roles across hospitality, interpretation, engineering, adventure tourism + more!

$50+ MILLION

TOTAL PROJECT COST DELIVERY VALUE

Representing one of the largest private capital injections in Tasmania's tourism history, MWCC is definitely not cutting corners when it comes to delivering a holistic eco-tourism attraction. We don't just want to 'build' it; we can build it well.

~$89m IMPACT

INJECTED INTO STATE ECONOMY EVERY YEAR

Attracting wealth from outside Tasmania is key to improving the State's health and well-being, particularly during our slower winter months. From distributing wages, taxes and dividends in Tasmania, MWCC will be a responsible corporate citizen.
