Will there be a cleared scar beneath the route?
No. The cabins travel above the forest, and MWCC’s solution does not require extra electricity at the summit, so a cleared strip is not needed beneath the cableway.
Further Detail:
The towers lift the cabins above the tree canopy, and the long span carries them over the mountain face. Unlike a road or rail line, the cableway does not need a continuous ground-level corridor. The forest beneath the span can remain preserved in place, which significantly improves potential visual impact of the solution.
Additionally, MWCC’s solution utilises commercial battery storage built into the Pinnacle Centre, to provide electricity backup. This removes the need for the cableway alignment to host any electricity transmission.
Construction is concentrated at the stations, three towers and access road. The route uses the steep rise near the Organ Pipes to keep the number of towers low. Together, these choices reduce the amount of ground occupied by transport infrastructure and preserve the experience of travelling above the forest rather than through a cleared path.
