Linkway to the Cafe

Rising over the Organ Pipes, winter morning

Will there be a cleared scar beneath the route?

The centre sits below the summit’s natural profile, with a rooftop lookout and a carefully positioned summit tower.

Further Detail:

The eastern side of the summit has a rare feature of natural terraces not found elsewhere around the summit that allow the building to sit below the top of the mountain. The roof has been cleverly designed to host public viewing areas, with indoor facilities underneath. This preserves the outlook from the summit while reducing the building’s prominence when seen from Hobart.

The route needs only one tower near the top. Its position, shape and dark finish have been refined to reduce its visual presence, and uniquely designed for MWCC, the maintenance frame at the top of the tower will fold to lower its normal profile further. The view-comparison images on the website let you see how the design sits in the landscape from the city, summit and surrounding suburbs.
